I'm just basing this on my watching the game, I didn't look up any stats or anything. But I wasn't impressed with our run stopping abilities, especially later in the game. I remember Jacobs ripping runs of almost ten yards a few times and at least one that went for about twenty. I recall thinking "they are still smash-mouthing us". We may have improved our run defense- I mean that's a given- but it still wasn't great. But maybe I'm just remembering a few bad plays and our run defense was better than I'm giving them credit for? Will someone chime in and tell me if I'm wrong about this? The Raiders had grand total of 13 rushing attempts for 64 yards. Jacobs had 1 run for 18 yards; other than that, the Raiders ran the ball 12 times for 46 yards. www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401437643 That’s 5 YPC. Good thing we had a 2 score lead

That’s 5 YPC. Good thing we had a 2 score lead Less than 4 yards a carry outside of the one run. The Raiders would have loved to run the ball all day, and they couldn’t do it even though it was 3-3 into the 2nd quarter. They had very few 2nd & 5 or less downs after a 1st down run during the course of the game, and that’s what destroyed the Chargers defense in 2021. The Raiders had a regular feed of 2nd & short and 3rd & very short situations in 2021 following 1st down runs, and that didn’t happen yesterday, especially in the first half when they first built their lead. 1st down carry yardage during the course of the game (Yards) First Half 3, 4, -1, 3, 3, 1 Second Half 5, 7, 6, 8

Like I said good thing we had the lead and Carr turned it over in the second half. Jacobs was 10 for 57. By contrast Ekeler was 14 for 36

I'm down with it. I'm drinking the koolaid. I wanted his big contract. But how do I reconcile the lack of stats ? Is it just fluff coach talk ? I truly don't have those answers. REACT AS I STIR THE POT LIKE NEVER BEFORE As President of the Ball Watchers Guild. I'm sure that you will be able to reconcile the contradictory information. He's getting about 10 million a ball.................................................

REACT AS I STIR THE POT LIKE NEVER BEFORE When JC is out there playing CB, soon we hope, and all of the running plays go away from him, and there are no thrown passes at WR's he is covering, he will have a bland stat sheet...... but did he impact the game? That is a start on how you reconcile the effort by DJ...... There is nobody else I would want with no stats at 20 million dollars a year than him ?? is that the right answer ? REACT AS I RUN COMPLETE DESTRUCTION ON THE BOARDS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By contrast Ekeler was 14 for 36 No doubt that the Chargers running game had its struggles, and an 18 yard run will definitely pump up the stats for a guy who only carried the ball ten times. I guess we’ll find out soon enough if they were getting worn down by the run or if they changed up on defensive formations with a 14 point lead & the Raiders focusing on the pass in the second half. The Raiders only ran the ball 6 times in the 2nd half despite having some success as you have noted.

Is there a value in knowing the offence is not going in JC's direction?

I don't care what JC is making, if his presence alone forces an offence in a particular direction, the cost is worth it.
