You are on the money here (pun intended).
We are going to lose some key contributors and fill in those spots with bottom tier FA and draft picks.
Van Noy, Davis, Tranquil, Calahan, could all be gone.
We have to have JC play to his contract and Bosa better wreck shop next year because he is not tradable with a 31 million cap hit. And we have to sign our QB this year. I was only partially joking when I said 12 years 600 million+. he will make over 50 a year guaranteed. and they would be smart to lock him down long term.
I wouldn’t give Herbert that deal. He will get it no matter what. However, I am curious, what would you give him ? I see the neighborhood of 50 mil per year, what do you like ?

I gave you the 51ish number. You are welcome. When you say guaranteed, you mean you promise he will get it, right ? Not guaranteed money. There is only so much TT can take at this point. at 50 mill he will be in the NFL employee assistance program. I do not mean guaranteed money, I mean I promise the number will be that high.

I don't believe Herbert needs a new contract between now and new season start.....he is headed into his final year. There is always change.....don't be afraid. You are right he doesn't have to be extended per the rules. But the Chargers would be smart to get that done now. the price will only increase if they wait. Also not extending in the fourth year will bring bad blood.
Justin is statistically the best QB ever in the first 3 years of a career hands down. You lock him up as soon as possible.

5 years 225 million with 175 million guaranteed. That would be a discount.
Whats funny is that in order to make these huge contracts I think the Spanos family has to have an escrow account with the money in it. And I don't think they are liquid enough to afford it.

We had better hope Herbert gets his before Burrow. Because if we go second the number will only go up.
(genius well thought out post AGAIN)

It is my thought that both sides know and respect where they need to get to, and both recognize the timeline. So for Herbert's side to work with the Charger's side to be strategic about the 'when', (thinking cap ramifications) it doesn't seem farfetched they do so. Good communication eliminates any 'bad blood' issues.

I have never ever heard a Chargers player say otherwise. Some didn't like being cut, nor getting all they wanted, etc. But not the set up and follow through part.

They might be further along on a contract outline then what the media knows. It sure would not surprise me.......

Absolutely. To me it takes into account his skill and accolades thus far in his career, but also reflects his collapse in his first playoff game.

I wouldn’t give Herbert that deal. 32 NFL teams would. 22 other NFL teams have more money than Spanos and not afraid to spend money.

As long as Staley is the HC we’re not going anywhere. You can’t just invest in players. You need to invest in a culture changer at HC and they didn’t. Might as well do a Hershel Walker type trade and get a boatload of picks for Herbert. $50m a year? Win some playoff games and then we’ll talk

Absolutely. To me it takes into account his skill and accolades thus far in his career, but also reflects his collapse in his first playoff game. Let me help you guys with all of this. Nobody is blaming Herbert for Jax game. One Touchdown pass, 273 yards, no INT's, no fumbles. He has shattered 3 year records for new quarterbacks. The team KNOWS the talent they have at QB. OBJECTIVELY he is a top 5 QB in the NFL. He is young, so you have years ahead of you. That all adds up to money time. We are going to have to pay the pied piper, and it's not even a discussion. Feel really good if you get less than 51 million a year. Because that is what the market will bear. It's not Coupon Tom time, he and his agent don't give a shit about Cap numbers, and its not bargain time. You just cut the check and keep your mouth shut. If our boy is smart, he flew down with Burrow to Miami, and they are playing catch with Tom Brady laughing their asses off. $$$$
