He was the scapegoat but he also should have been fired. Both things can be true Let's go to the core of it. Did firing him fix everything ? We don't know yet, depends on who they hire. If we become the Los Angeles Chargerams then no... Bold take... Hiring the right person fixes the run game!!!

No. Replacing him with a quality OC should get run production, TOP with a lead and scoring upgraded. We won't be perfect, just significantly better with the right OC.

Let me frame it differently.............Did Lombardi injure Mike Williams (I believe Bosa and Murray too) in a meaningless week 18 game ? Did Lombardi allow Jax to come back from 27-0 ?
Now. Did firing him fix everything ?
REACT AS I PROBE YOUR MIND LIKE NO ONE ELSE CAN !!

Spanos wants to be the Los Angeles Chargerams though.

Did that same play get called 4x during the season for negative 21 yards. And that was with Carter running it? Should Staley have been fired as well. You’re damn right he should have. The defense has underperformed his entire tenure.

The fire Staley ship has sailed, we have him until next year at least. Good luck Staley now find the right guy for the jobs you have opened up.
Can we get Donnie Edwards into the building to learn and eventually coach the LB?

Lombardi was the sacrificial lamb and he deserved to go but the defense gave up 31 points. 24 in the second half and their first half touchdown came with less than a minute left. Lombardi deserved to be fired for for the 3rd and less than a yard call at the end of the first half that enabled that JaX TD. The single worst call so far in the playoffs. Staley is effectively the DC and he’s not gonna fire himself. So true, which is why TT and up should have held Staley to the same standard that got Lombardi fired. The defence adjustments are terrible, so fire the DC. Staley stays as HC.....yes he can influence both O and D, but insist the OC calls the offence, and the new DC calls the defence...... The inconsistency on this is just mind boggling, such terrible management. oh no. It is not mind boggling at all. Its total peace. (Spanos)

I am not a Joe Brady fan and don’t see the fit there but I’m willing to be persuaded.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame Herbert but he certainly didn’t make the most of his opportunities. He could have won us the game. But the rest of the offense, and the defense, and the missed FG lost us the game. As far as a new DC: That option is not on the table. Jax was a team loss, everybody could have done better. Being the NFL #1 D wks 14-17 and 1st half vs Jax gets DC /HC Staley another shot. The D got the Chargers into the playoffs.
Staley's hot D came against poor clubs, so I am not buying it. The D had terrible halftime adjustments all season, it is part of their identity, and I blame Staley just like I blamed Lombardi. The Chargers, in keeping the same structure in D coaching staff, will see the same results. TT is making a mistake now that will see him walking out the door next year with Staley.

Maybe Staley will try to hire his brother or son as the OC, And Spanos will bring the no nepotism hammer down.
It looks like Sean Payton is going to pass on all the jobs in hopes this one opens up. I am actually flattered.

That's really interesting, I wonder if the Saints compensation was too much for teams to justify and played a small part.

The Broncos would probably overpay for him but do not have the draft capitol for the saints. The Others, who knows? But really he wants one of the top young talents at QB to play with and we are the only Team that has the Top young QB and are not performing as expected. Bengals , Bills and even the Jags seem to be set at coach for a while.
He doesn't want Kyler Murry and would probably work with Russ but the Broncos sold their future for him.

And you know this to be true, or just random speculation?
