Taking that approach with an aging running back is one thing, If the 5th year option was in the plans they would have already done it and Herbert would be planning an exodus for year 6. They will sign him before the start of training camp this year, and it will be in line with the top money paid to burrow. The other problem is that to sign those huge contracts the bonus money has to be in an escrow account and the Spanos family may not be liquid enough to make it happen. So we may loose Justin because of that.
I am sure they have a plan and will get it done but part of me is scared that Herbert waiting it out and signing elsewhere is probably the smarter move.
Losing Herbert would not surprise me in the least... There is no practical possibility they let Herbert walk.

Tranquil signs with KC. Sigh That’s a Slap in the face! Apparently Chargers offered him more, his camp wanted to play the market, Chargers grabbed Hendricks, the market dried up, and Tranq lost.

disingenuous. His post fits the ekeler discussion. Ekeler wants a trade. Its also no different than in-house. You offer a contract for years ahead for past performance based on them continuing that performance in those future years. Why would you pay a guy for past performance if you knew he wasn't going to be anywhere near it in the future? No. you cut bait. Not disingenuous at all, the topic and point are different. We offered Mike Williams 3 years... We offered DJ 4 years... Ekeler is only 27 and played on par if not exceeded the performance of those players and positions. To disregard his performance and argue "future" is disingenuous and moving goal posts. Ekeler has been durable... GET THE MAN SOME HELP and he will be more durable. Give me a break... I only took exception with your comment that it didn't fit. it does. i do agree with you he has earned more, than just expectation for the future holds

Its all speculation, but the point remains he has done more to earn more money than several other players on the team with larger contracts. My earlier point being, RB's get screwed... To this day its a moot topic, either Ekeler has gotten zero interest or TT has turned down potential trade offers. Like I said in the beginning, TT holds all the cards.

I would be very surprised. It would probably end my fanhood, and that's saying something. Me too.If these loser POS spAnus idiots can't hold on to Herbert they are a losing organization and I would be done with them completely.

To Telesco's credit, he said go ahead and check the market. He knew it was low for RB's. He also held all the cards. It had to be a trade, and he merely could hold out for the world. Give me a first, second, and a third. Just kill the deal. Lions Williams was a big deal going to the Saints !!!! He only got 4 million a year. Ekeler's value to our team is huge !! But Telesco played the business hand. He had all the cards.

So close in pay, but the kicker can walk normally at 45 years of age.
