The only ones I'll be following in comparison are Flowers, Addison, Kincaid, Mayer, and Washington. If Washington ends up being a pro bowler the entire league will have egg on their face, everyone passed on him. Repeatedly... Washington is a great examples of fans getting enamored, and all the teams seeing a big slow lurch in the NFL. was that too soon ? I think clubs saw a medical issue, foot bones, and stayed far away.....seems prudent.

I would like everyone to React to this !!!!! Here is some of who was still on the board when we drafted Quentin in the first round: 22. Baltimore Ravens – Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College 23. Minnesota Vikings – Jordan Addison, WR, USC 24. New York Giants (from JAX) – Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland 25. Buffalo Bills (from JAX through NYG) – Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah 26. Dallas Cowboys – Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan 27. Jacksonville Jaguars (from BUF) – Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma 28. Cincinnati Bengals – Myles Murphy, DE, Clemson 29. New Orleans Saints (from SF through MIA and DEN) – Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson 30. Philadelphia Eagles – Nolan Smith, LB, Georgia 31. Kansas City Chiefs – Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE, Kansas State Round 2 32. Pittsburgh Steelers (from CHI) – Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State 33. Tennessee Titans (from HOU through AZ) – Will Levis, QB, Kentucky 34. Detroit Lions (from AZ) – Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa 35. Las Vegas Raiders (from IND) – Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame 36. Los Angeles Rams – Steve Avila, G, TCU 37. Seattle Seahawks (from DEN) – Derick Hall, LB, Auburn 38. Atlanta Falcons (from LV through IND) – Matthew Bergeron, OT, Syracuse 39. Carolina Panthers – Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss 40. New Orleans Saints – Isaiah Foskey, DE, Notre Dame 41. Arizona Cardinals (from TEN) – BJ Ojulari, LB, LSU 42. Green Bay Packers (from CLE through NYJ) – Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon State With only 20 players chosen at that point, obviously there are going to be talented ones available. Not a single one of them has accomplished anything at the NFL level yet.....there will be surprises, eh There are a few things that stood out to me. Every TE was available. That tells me the group is very undervalued, and when the Chargers came up they valued the WR over the TE group. The next thing is ok WR. But they went THAT WR. Size is obvious, but something else must have triggered them there. We went Tuli in the second round, yet Nolan Smith was on the board in the first. It all adds up to TRUST YOUR BIG BOARD. Telesco has our list, and just crossed off until he got to 21. Quentin Johnston's name was the highest one left not crossed off yet.

Their Oline was trash last year, Najee Harris needs blocking help, Washington will block for Harris. He was projected at 35th pick, and went 96th. Steelers may have landed true value at that spot.

Keenan Allen was a 1st round talent and fell due to medical concerns... We got him in the 3rd and he flourished. We'll see how it goes with Washington, I'll also compare him with Henley as the season progresses.

TT was preparing for the departure of KA.....
Choosing that particular WR was based on the size as you mention, but after that I think they loved his tendency for big plays. Those moments seem to follow this kid around.....cross your fingers that trait stays in his NFL career.
Round one, on the clock....and a clear decision on the path forward was being made.
One of KA or MW should be gone next year, but also one of Bosa or Mack....so time to decide. The Chargers chose to address WR first, hence not taking an Edge player at 21st pick. No idea if the choice was the right one, far too early, far too many things can happen.

Completely different positions, but you can track their progress in the NFL all the same.

I'm just comparing Washington's situation and fall in the draft to KA's...

While any injury history should be considered, there is a huge difference between KA's injuries (knee sprain, shoulder bruise) and the massive TE Washington's foot injury. Think Gates, and how debilitating his foot injury was to him. That is just a bunch on weight on that foot, and having issues will scare clubs....big time, hence the fall. The fall in the draft is similar, but to me, the concern was way bigger on Washington.

"I was told Darnell Washington could slide a little bit because of some medical stuff.. I thought he would drop a little bit but he's way too good to be the 93rd pick"----Pat McAfee

Chargers OC Kellen Moore on tight end usage: "We probably used a little bit more tight ends maybe the last couple years in Dallas... those different things suited us well. We'll do whatever suits us best here.”

Keenan Allen had a strained PCL and missed his entire senior year and also did not participate in the combine. Washington played and also participated in the combine, I would say Keenan Allen's situation was in fact worse. The biggest knock on Washington other than the injury concern is his lack of receptions, yards, and TD's. My point remains, they were both taken in the 3rd and Washington can see success just like KA did.

It's possible that Moore's Chargers offense will have the most productive, talented WR group in the NFL this year. Not a bad thing to contemplate.

Seattle and the Vikings have crazy WR talent after the draft. But our group is DEEP. I likey. Seattle Metcalf, Lockett, and drafted WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba ...........

When we win the SB this year THEN they are free to go seek their fortunes elsewhere. Not before. So it is written, so shall it be.
