Our boy hasn’t won a playoff game. Keenan says he needs to become a leader. Ekeler says the same thing. This is why I think the comment from TT about Herbert being on the team this year and next is important... I think it will come down to the Chargers needing to resign Herbert vs. doing it early. Classic Chargers and TT... This new precedent of locking in your QB early is not the Charger way. The deal will be done in the next two months. The “this year and next” comment was the GM equivalent of BB-talk. Meaningless IMO.

Its a little of both. Ekeler wouldn't even dare discuss 9-10-11 million a year if it wasn't for his past performance. If he had been average he would take his 6 million and skip down the sidewalk. Did you know 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey gets 16 million a year ?!?!?!?!?!?! Yes. Very similar stats to Ekeler. SF's GM had too many concussions. That said Ek is underpaid by performance measures but not that much. McC isn't worth that either. Ek needs to prove that he can play for a new OC in a different scheme for the contract he signed, then move on if that's what he wants. He hasn't a prayer in hell of getting another $10m or anything close from TT.
(Wrong quote)
in the interview he even acknowledged that the longer you wait the pricier it gets.
our boy has had statistically the best QB start ever. He has played through injuries. he is a Stud and will be payed a lot. I have said it before that it should be a 10 year deal worth close to 550 million. Who knows the guaranteed money is? That is the main issue because i don't think Spanos is liquid enough to escrow the money.

It would if I was making the call. Herbert we exercised our 5th year option. Like the Dolphins did with Tua. You’re not Burrow, Hurts, Mahomes or Lamar yet. Show us and we’ll pay And that is the problem most fans have with contracts at the pro level. A player is not paid off of his past, he is payed off of the projections of his future play. Not to stir up af, but Ekeler is the great example. Ekeler wants top money over significant term, presumably. The issue for the club is Ekeler's age, and what the projections imply. 2-3 years is probably doable, but anything longer becomes questionable. If, and I say 'if' because I am not in the room, but if Ekeler is looking for five years, not going to happen. Now Herbert's projections for the next, what....ten years, are off the chart. Herbert will get paid.....and not having a PO win won't matter one bit. Blah, blah, blah….they aren’t getting their money’s worth on any of the big contracts. Not Bosa, not Derwin and not Keenan.

Jackson has a 1-3 career playoff record with four total touchdowns and seven turnovers. His passer rating in the playoffs (68.3) is 28.4 points lower than his regular season average, the fifth-largest dropoff in NFL history. You’re cherry picking Lamar off that list but he has been in 4 playoff games. Gets there almost every year. MVP, all time single season rushing leader as a QB. He’s got some bona fides.

The Chargers haven’t had that in many moons. The Bengals have one of the most talented & deep rosters in the NFL built with about five consecutive “top 5 to 10 picks in the draft” drafts. They’re loaded. The Chargers have some top-tier talent, but as we all know they’re thin and can’t withstand injuries.

I guess we’ll see how he does when he actually has a receiver or two. Without looking name the Ravens receivers last year

The Bengals got Burrow a weapon when the world said Penei Sewell. More than anything, Mahomes, Lamar, Hurts and burrow have better coaching. If I’m Herbert I’m in no hurry to sign long term with the Chargers.

If I was Daboll I'd get compensation from Jones...
Herbert is stuck with Staley and now Moore as a consolation prize...
I think we can all agree Herbert deserves to get paid, should be zero argument. Question is how much TT and the Chargers will attempt to low ball him.

They’ve had a top-tier oline and strong RB’s for his entire career with the exception of 2021 when the top 3 RB’s were knocked out for the season by injuries. They’ve had very good TE’s with only the WR’s being considered average recently. Lamar’s streakiness in the pocket is the main factor that has held back the Ravens passing attack. Luckily for everybody that you aren’t Herbert. The announcement for his record contact in the next couple of months is a mere formality. Bank on it. 😉
