It was really interesting to see that, at times, Bosa didn't even get blocked. I think offenses have gone more and more to quick hit passes to receivers with good YAC. It protects their franchise, multi-million dollar player (the QB). With defenses limiting the explosive long-ball play (ala Fangio defense) the offense has to take what it is given. A lot of times, that means in-routes, stick routes, slants, and bubble screens (along with regular RB screens). So, how do you defend that space in the middle that the deep split safeties are giving away...? The best way to defend that is to cover them......which clearly was a challenge against Miami.

Yeah, I think they tried that already. Did you notice the "quick motion" McDaniel was using...? There will be plenty of teams that will have trouble "covering" Cheetah and Waddle.... They might want to come up with something more innovative.

Well I can tell you definitively that a soft zone didn't work. And also that JC in man didn't work. So let's see what (if) they come up with for Sunday.

The play design was perfect, and worked as such for G1, but defences will adjust, eh. Tua getting the ball out that fast pretty much negated any effect a pass rush might have. So DC's will need to take that short pass away, making Tua hold onto the ball longer. Of course that could lead to Miami success in throwing deeper routes, or to Tua feeling pass rush pressure and making mistakes. My issue is Staley didn't adjust his defence approach, just kept going with what wasn't working. Front four rushing with their head down, Tua throwing over them to WR's on short quick routes......if those front four are not getting there, then they better make Tua throw over their extended arms....deflect a ball, knock it down, or better yet intercept it. I have serious doubts about Staley and his defence acumen.

Better figure something out before we meet them again in the playoffs.

Last year, they clogged up the middle... this year they didn't. IMO, McDaniel used a bunch of pre-snap motion to un-clog the middle by making LB's move outside to cover. With safeties playing so deep, it created way too much space in the middle. 3 safeties...? But closer to the LOS...? Dime personnel...? Sub Murray out for JT Woods...?

Murray getting sucked towards the line on an empty set (with no running back) was not a good look.

Tua was going to his first read almost the entire game. And why not the first read was open. That’s why he was able to get the ball out so quick. If you can’t jam them at the line, the safeties are going to have to move up or LBs drop into the middle to clog up those lanes. I suspect Belichick will have a plan on Sunday. His philosophy is to take away the best weapon. He’ll either double Hill or knock him off his route every time. I’ll say this, watching Hill live his speed is phenomenal and it’s from the jump. He’s at top speed with his first step. The guy is running by world class athletes like they’re stuck in mud. He’s a different human
