Speaking Tuesday, Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said free agent Antonio Gates "absolutely" could return for 2019.
"We have to look and see where we are at free agent wise and money-wise, and just see how some of these things work out," Lynn said. "We explained that to him, so we’re in wait-and-see mode right now. Going on 39, Gates did not sign for 2018 until the eve of Week 1, so there is unlikely to be a sense of urgency on either side.

Gates will decide when Gates is finished playing.
TT will simply nod his head in agreement with the decision.

Gates can contribute a few key receptions. The question is can we afford the roster slot? My play would be take Kahale Warring, SDSU TE 6th and make the decision regards Gates as TC is closing. I'm a Gates fan, would love to see him get a shot at a SB but it has to be about making the Chargers better.

I love Gates. He's been a great player and a solid locker room guy throughout his career. He'll no doubt play at a reasonable price. The team does need to carry three TE's so unless they bring in a young TE that looks good - Gates would be a worthwhile signing.

I want to see Gates drop 20 and get his butt in shape. That would demonstrate to me the desire to get in shape. He should get a Peloton. I'm training for my third Ironman and bought myself one in January. Best training and conditioning machine on the planet.

Green & Henry are better blockers. - This is assuming that HH is as good or better than pre-injury. I'd like to see a young TE besides Hunter that they are high on his potential for the future.
