I was curious about the forest sarell signing so I went looking for a ravens preseason game in my dvr. I found the ravens vs WFT one when JK Dobbins blew out his knee. I’m not sure the chargers signed sarell to pick his brain about the ravens because they already have schofield for that. both schofield and sarell were with the ravens thru OTAs and all summer and both were cut at the same time.
schofield didn’t sign on the ravens practice squad and sarell did until a week later when he too was let go from their practice squad. At the time the ravens had a surplus of offensive linemen, they even traded one right before the final cut down. Sarell signed with the giants practice squad and schofield waited two weeks then signed directly onto the 53 man roster with the chargers after his salary was no longer guaranteed. I think schofield basically chose not to stick around in baltimore and instead waited to see if anything else popped up and I think he already had ties to the west coast from his time with the chargers, it could just be a matter of him having already settled his family here from his previous stint with the chargers, who knows. It seems like baltimore still wanted him and he chose to wait and came back out here instead of signing on to their practice squad.
Our practice squad has not had a tackle on it all year just two C/G guys. And there’s been an opening on the practice squad for a couple weeks. Sarell’s signing could just be coincidental since the giants released him from their practice squad a week ago. It could just be a matter of schofield recruiting sarell to the chargers after the chargers spoke to him about sarell.
About that game, the ravens starters played one drive then schofield played LT for two drives RT for another two drives and then LT for the rest of the game. The ravens had him playing left tackle and he looked competent in that role. That was a bit of a surprise to me. Sarell played RT in the 3rd and 4rth quarter and he looked okay. But not once did either guy look like pipkins and WFT has a deep bench on deffensive line. Sarell looks decent, I read about him that he was the top rated offensive tackle in his class coming out of highschool and he ended up going undrafted.
