Here’s my prediction: * Kawhi signs a 2 year deal with the Raptors (the second year being a player option, which he ultimately declines next offseason). * This doesn’t get announced until Saturday, which is the first day any and all of these reported FA signings to date, can become official. * The douches at Fox Sports 1, go crazy over the fact that he left Toronto without a deal announced, and spin it as he must he signing elsewhere. Chris Broussard once again announces that it’s a done deal he goes to the Lakers, Shannon Sharpe creams his pants from the excitement, and Skip Bayless says “I told you so” and throws in a few jabs about “#2”. Colin Cowherd will find some unprecedented way to create controversy over the situation, which gets him a lifetime endorsement deal with Summers Eve. Then come Saturday, the deal gets announced, and they once again all look like the fools that most know they are...there is no shortage of laughter across North America at their expense. * Next offseason we do this whole thing over again, but the difference is the Raptors will have a boatload of cap space to work with. They replace their aging semi-stars with legit young talent. Kawhi once again signs a 2 year deal with the Raptors, and ultimately declines the player option in year two. * 2 years from now, he has the tenure requirements to qualify for a Supermax deal. He makes his long term decision at that point. Just found this....although I don't know if any of the rumours surrounding Kawhi can be believed: Leonard has officially met with all the teams that are pursuing him, so now he'll take some time to weigh his options. The Raptors reportedly had a strong meeting yesterday, with Drake being heavily involved and even offering him a role on his OVO record label, but the Los Angeles teams remain very much in play. For what it's worth, the reporting is that no 1-plus-1 deals have been discussed, which suggests that when he does put pen to paper, it'll be on a long-term, four or five-year deal. I hope that one is true, that would be a big advantage for the Raptors if he’s gonna just sign long term. He knows what he has with the Raptors, and has no clue what any other situations would be like, so if he’s gonna dive right into the deep end my money is on him going with what he’s familiar and comfortable with. But yeah, I don’t believe most of these reports that come out, and this one sounds rather doubtful to me...

That does make sense, but it also leaves money on the table, and takes away freedom. At age 28, Kawhi probably is not playing another 10 years, so likely only has one 5-year contract and a short term deal left in his career. If he does the short term deals first, then he’ll maximize the money he can make. If he does it in reverse, he’ll leave money on the table, and more importantly won’t have the freedom of free agency while still in his prime years. Also for someone the calber of Kawhi, the only real bad news that comes along with a significant injury is the missed time on the court. Teams will pay for him no matter what, and he’s already proven that he can bounce back from a major injury, and come back stronger than ever. Durant could have had a super-max with the Warriors if he wanted to stay, and Klay also got the max he was eligible, despite their major injuries that will keep them sidelined for most (if not all) of next year. The same would be true for Kawhi if he was in that boat...

So Kevon Looney, who was playing for the Warriors through major pain in the NBA Finals with a broken collarbone, (after being ruled out for the series) gets a huge reward for that. A 3-year $15 million contract to return to the team, expected to be their starting Center....WOW ! Talk about a show of gratitude, Warriors. Being a re-sign, they could have paid him anything up to the max, there would just be luxury tax added to it. Durant isn’t expected play at all next year, but I’m sure the Warriors wouldn’t have had trouble finding the $20+ million in a luxury tax penalty attached to his $40 million contract price for next year alone. For Looney though, they could only manage to find $15 million over 3 years, for a guy who lives up to the team name. If that doesn’t squash any perception that the Warriors don’t care about the well being of their players, I don’t know what will...For Toronto, it'll be the one way plane ticket to LAX.
You know what's comin', you, don't even know do you. Take some Clippers and you mix them up in a pot Sprinkle a little Big L on top, and what the hell do you got? You got the realest and illest killers tied up in a knot The Juggernauts of this League, like it or not
Its like a fight to the top just to see who died for the spot You put your life in this, nothing like surviving the shot Y'all know what time it is as soon as Kawhi signs on this dot
Shoot what you know about death threats, 'cause he'll get a lot
Leonard likes records, he'll be eighty seconds from Towers Some cowards tried to sign him in Toronto but the Limelight is ours Better evacuate all children - nuclear shower There's nothing spookier, you're now about to witness the power

Well, I’m obviously disappointed by the news, but can at least respect the decision. If he joined up with LeBron & AD I would have been furious, not that I ever believed he was going there (or thought it would work out as well as many assumed if he did). The second part of this extremely big news for the Clippers is the acquisition of Paul George via trade. He was the #3 vote getter for the league MVP last year. The Clippers got two of the best players in the league last night, as I was sleeping. I’m hoping that maybe this is all just a bad dream. Aside from the fact that the Lakers have a mostly incomplete roster, and many of the good free agent options are off the board, the Clippers roster is looking far superior to their’s for next season. 2019 was the Raptors time, and I’ll always be thankful to Kawhi for that. Maybe 2020 will be the Clippers time. The silver lining for me (which isn’t much), is being able to smile about how the Fox Sports guys were dead wrong again. Two of them reported that the Clippers were out as of yesterday, which I never believed, and it turns out couldn’t have been more false. Whenever those guys report something, expect the exact opposite to happen, and you’ll have a pretty good idea most of the time...

The comments I made about Toronto’s luxury tax, we’re talking about why the Raptors may NOT resign him. The team that had $50+ Million in cap Space was the Clippers You’re doing a bang up job at making yourself look like a fool, in a moment which should be a prime trolling opportunity for you.

When I say backwater Toronto, and the superstars want to go to the spotlight of LA. That's what I mean boys. In the 35 years that the Clippers have been in LA, they’ve yet to spend a day in the spotlight. So if that’s what you mean, that’s some pretty good stuff...
