So much for the dead zone: Gordon won’t report to camp until / unless he gets a new deal. www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001035544/article/melvin-gordon-will-demand-trade-without-new-dealThere had been speculation about this possibility, but now it’s a reality. Personally, I don’t see Melvin having much leverage because unlike Bell, he is under contract. IMO it’s not a big deal if he misses most / all of camp so long as he reports a couple of weeks before the start of the season to collect his large 5th year salary and be eligible for UFA status in 2020. I don’t see the Chargers shelling out a mega-contract for Gordon in 2019.

I think that the major differences between Donald & Gordon are that DT isn’t a fungible position and Donald is a unique generational talent.

Hmmmmmmmmm....I'm sure Telesco is telling him "Go get that 5.6 million this year, and we will take care of you after that."
Melvin has a great great point: He is used WAY more than other RB's in the league that get paid more.
That's tough to argue.

He isn’t used that much, and will have both Ekeler & Jackson to spell him in 2019.

I don't blame him - how can a guy be expected to get by on $5.6 M

Call their bluff.....
Tell the agent there will be no new contract this season.
Tell the media the same thing as told to the agent, then add in the Los Angeles Chargers are open to trading Gordon if the right deal was there.
Then let it simmer as the camps get going.......be patient, either the player or a team will come calling.

That can wait until later. wait till its 3 weeks before the season starts. If he is not in camp by then... They may be able to do a new contract this season as in during it. But not before.

I can't blame the kid, but I also do not blame the chargers if they tell him to pound sand.
He is great when on the field, but we have good options behind him.

10 million in cap space. 54 million in cap for next year.
TT, PAY THE MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They can do a new deal over breakfast tomorrow if they want to.
I'll have McRugby break it down for you.

Now I warned you guys all off season about using magic unicorns to replace what Tyrell Williams brought to the table at WR. We had fun debating, and discussing production, etc etc.............
NOW I AM REALLY REALLY warning you about using action jackson's to replace the running, receiving, blocking, decoy, what did I leave out COMPLETE NFL WORKHORSE TALENT OF OUR NUMBER 1 RUNNING BACK.
Think before you tread.

No doubt dude is our best option at running back and is a top 5-10 talent at his position. All that being said, a Good O-line makes up for not having a top tier RB.
