Speaking of big money, Kevin Byard's 70 Mill/5 yr will be the starting price for Derwin if he stay playing at his current level and then some. 70 MILLION DOLLARS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There goes the Gold Trimmed New Lions Den at my Coliseum.
Derwin's gonna get much more than that

Probably because he doesn't want (or need) to attend training camp like I said to begin with. See you around preseason week 4 MG3. Taking a chance if that’s the gambit: He’s not a franchise tag who can skip camp with no potential consequences: MGIII is under contract and subject to $40K / day fine for not reporting. As I stated before, I reckon that the Chargers will waive the fines if he reports after camp, but no guarantee that it will happen. If this is the reason why he’s holding out, I am fine with it (as if Melvin gives a damn about my opinion). However, that doesn’t explain agent Bilbo’s statement that his client felt disrespected by the offer. He only felt disrespected AFTER talking to Kevin Byard.
Joe, what am I hearing that gambling money could mushroom for the league's revenue ?

Not much of a gambit IMO, the lines of communication will stay open and there's a solid chance for MG3 to get a little bit on top for gas. He's not going to turn down that offer to hold out, and he's not going to turn it down to gamble on FA. He'll sign in a few weeks. Agent gonna agent, that's why. He might as well put up a billboard that says, "Will Lie For Bigger Commission" and a picture of him conning an old lady out of her social security check.

Derwin's gonna get much more than that Of course he is. Aside from being freaking Derwin James, the salary cap just keep going up. In a couple years you're gonna see the Marlon Macks of the world getting 10mil/yr.

However, that doesn’t explain agent Bilbo’s statement that his client felt disrespected by the offer. depends on the guaranteed amount. My suggestion was first year fully guaranteed, 2nd year guaranteed for injury or if he is on the roster 3 days before the league year starts. “Worst case scenario” is that MGIII collects the huge signing bonus and Year 1 salary, he’s released several days before the start of free agency, and then is a UFA at the same time he would be if he played out his contract. That’s the deal TWill signed in Oakland. MGIII is protected from losing out on money due to yet another injury, and the Chargers are protected if he doesn’t produce up to the level of his contract. I don’t see the Chargers fully guaranteeing two years given his production level over four seasons as he will be getting paid at the level of a Pro Bowl starter, not a Pro Bowl alternate. If he produces at that level, he won’t be released. That’s the compromise that will be necessary to finalize the deal if the Todd Gurley demands are just a smoke screen.

From Adam Schefter:
While the two sides exchanged proposals in recent days, there is mounting pessimism Chargers’ holdout Melvin Gordon will be reporting anytime soon and his holdout threatens to go into the regular season, per sources. Time to rely on Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson, Detrez Newsome.

I don't blame Gordon. He should do what is best for himself and try to get paid. I don't blame the Chargers. They should try to do what's best for the team. That being said, I think what's best for the team at this point is to move on.
Obviously Gordon helps the run game. The team was slightly less efficient offensively when he missed games. Those games also coincided with Pouncey being hurt. One way to improve the offense is to improve the OL. It was the weakness of the team even before Okung's illness. Hopefully he recovers fully, but his health is the most important thing. The problem is that few teams match up for an OT for Gordon trade. That's why I'd like to see a 3 team trade. Chargers receive OT Vaitai from PHI. PHI receives a third round pick from HOU. HOU receives Gordon from the Chargers. Eagles drafted Dillard so he's the primary back up. They love third round picks. Houston needs a RB and have cap space. Chargers get an OT to keep Scott or Pipkins from starting and hopefully replace Tevi if Okung comes back.
I'd rather have our other running backs AND PHILIP RIVERS behind Vaitai than Scott more than Gordon behind Scott.
It also saves cap space. It gives the Chargers flexibility heading into the season.
Finally, if the running game needs a workhorse back some team with a pretty good (not saying elite) back will be out of the hunt by the deadline. Trade a conditional 5th rounder to get ready for the stretch run/playoffs.

I have always liked Newsome, which is very rare for me given his draft situation and past depth slot.
I love him getting a shot, just not this way.......

Congrats to RB Kevin Byard for his big deal, but why stop there ? Why not talk to RB Jimmy Garrappolo about his deal?

If when games start and the Bolts look good in the RB play, Gordon will really feel the pressure. We will see him week 10......by then things won't be so loving between the two parties.
