It’s Bosa redux ... Derwin James will be gone until November, at least. The Chargers safety will undergo surgery on his foot following evaluations of the stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, via sources informed of the situation. James is expected to be sidelined about three months and will be operated on by noted foot and ankle specialist Robert Anderson, Garafolo added. Around The NFL will have more on this story shortly.. www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001042192/article/derwin-james-to-have-foot-surgery-miss-three-months

Hard to imagine how long he would be out if he opted not to have surgery.

Definitely unfortunate but that's why we have depth. Make a complete recovery and come back for the playoff run.

Goalie says: "We have depth. We are fine with J. Jackson, Ekeler, and Pope. TT doesn't have to do anything James is under contract. TT has plenty of horses in the corral. Blah blah blooey." Wait. Which Pro Bowler are you discussing again ? Oh how I laugh at the hypocrisy. FLAME ME RIGHT NOW FOR EXPOSING ALL BIASES ON HERE !!!!!! FLAME FLAME FLAME At least you are consistent in how you twist things....... I have said many times, having Gordon is the preference....... Losing James is a much bigger deal than losing Gordon, and it actually isn't even close. You know, I thought about this ,,,,,,,,which ME thinking about something is , well, MONUMENTAL levels of wonderment............ Losing our Pro Bowl running back is more even than you want to believe, but let's look at where it leaves us. Nobody wanted Jackson, and we picked him in the 7th round of the draft. He's in his second year, I won't bore you with his rookie year TOTAL's numbers. We are replacing James with an All-Pro football player. I didn't say Pro Bowl, that was ALL- PRO, which is a bigger deal. Losing them both is more even than you think. Saying things like "much bigger deal" and "it actually isn't even close" is just ridiculous.

The obvious said, James is a much bigger talent than Gordon, and if you could only pick one for your team.......yea, I know, James every time.

I'm a Gordon fan, but I can see his absence adequately ( that doesn't mean equally!) filled in by Ekeler and Jackson. Heck, every football analyst or writer uses the word fungible to describe the entire RB market! Gordon is a good- but not great!- RB and there is ample proof that good RBs have been adequately replaced when they miss games. James however is more than just a good player. He is an elite chess piece on the defense. He can play deep, cover man to man, rush from the line, play LB, CB, SS, FS, blitz, tackle, stop the run and defend the passing game. Despite being a rookie last year he is already viewed as a generational talent, and is only getting better! He would be replaced by AP, Jenkins and other more unproven safeties. None of them- individually or collectively- can do what James does. And while I am very proud of AP's All Pro status, let's remember he earned that for his Special Teams play.

The problem with injuries and unavailability of our front line cornerstone type players isn’t that we don’t have adequate depth right behind them. We may, we’ll just have to see. It’s when the depth guys get banged up and have to miss a game or two (that’s me being optimistic). Then we’re talking 3rd stringers and we’re likely out of our depth.

The entire market ? Elliot is fungible ? Yeah, I don't think so. How are AP and Jenkins unproven safeties ? They played terrific for us last year. Did you miss last year ?
