Is it time for the Chargers to draft a top 5 overall QB?
Or is the hockey stick our future?
Discuss.

TT needs to fix the OL.......going OL first three picks 'might' save what is left of Rivers' career.......it would be clearly drafting for need, which I do not like to do, but.......

Nope we got a capable backup that can take the team for a few years if need be... Tyrod isn't the next Russell Wilson but he isn't the next Osweiller either. Draft Oline and Dline. But first and foremost get a GM that can draft these positions. My grandmother can draft better than TT...

I do not see that as completely true. TT is certainly the face of those decisions, but he is not making them unilaterally. I would prefer to focus on improving those decisions, which 'might' mean a change in GM, but I think the issue is in their system (only a guess on my part).

I realize Spanos jr plays a roll in who we draft, but I'm not prepared to give TT a pass for it. TT is the GM and the Bill Polian apprentice, right now he is failing.

I was not specifically referring to J Spanos, rather the decisions are a reflection of the systems in place. I do think having ownership involved in these decisions can complicate them quite a bit.

Hmmmmm, it would seem we are in 2 positions.......Rivers and draft again, or draft the future QB.
Go with the backup ? Is he the future ? Does he win a SB ? Does the organization have that as their plan ?
I don't see it, but its a different take.

I do feel that next year will be the last for Rivers. He's said things that make me believe that, like - I want to play in the new stadium in it's first year.
With that belief I think I'd draft to fix that OL and give PR a decent chance to win in his final year. I'd probably take a shot at a QB sometime after the 4th round but I still believe our biggest need is the OL.
Tyrod could lead the team to .500, just like he did the Bills but how long do we want to be a .500 team? Easton was a pick machine in the preseason games so that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling about him.

Its been proven several times over that a strong team with a "game managing QB" can win a Superbowl. Whether Tyrod is that guy or if the Chargers are even capable of building such a team are the million dollar questions. If/when PR retires I'm fully prepared for this team to be at bottom feeder status for quite a long time.

To answer the question - Tagovailoa or Herbert? I live in Oregon and I love the Ducks and I think I've seen every game Herbert has played. I think he's good but not so good that I'd draft him real early in the draft. Here's why, he often completes 5 or 6 in a row and then misfires 5 or 6 times in a row. Most often when he's missing, it's because he has a tenancy to overthrow. If he can correct that, he's a good prospect - he has a strong arm and he seems to see the field well but the accuracy makes me a bit afraid of how he'll do in the NFL

Rent a strong team and while we're at it, a fanbase!

Honestly... We need a team like Peyton Manning's Broncos team. PR is obviously not going to get us there with his arm. The problem is Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram is not Von Miller and with the exception of Derwin James nobody else on the defense is Superbowl caliber.
Upper management's failure at drafting LB'ers and Dline have wasted any potential PR had... In this day and age, high profile free agents can tip the scales and we can''t even do that. PR will never sniff a Superbowl and its sad.
So close yet so far away...

I will commit to Rivers, Ekler/JJ, and KA/MW, and HH......then fix the OL by drafting the following:
RD 1......Alaric Jackson OT
RD 2.....Malik Harrison ILB
RD 3.....Saahdig Charles OT
RD 4.....T J McCoy OC
RD 5.....Damien Lewis OG
RD 6.....Christian Rector Edge
RD 7.....Jordon Scott DL1T
I would add even more OL via FA if the deal appeared wise. (I am quite cautious about FA's, but this OL needs fixing now, not three years from now)
