Brady would have to be insane to play behind this oline as it is now. With that said, I don't think a FA QB is in our future. Possibly a 1st, likely a later rounds QB IMHO to play behind Tyrod. Honestly the only FA QB I want is a healthy Newton... Wouldn't this statement about fear apply to all FA QB's ?

I read that like he's afraid of being a cap cut, and they said he's not. As far as another.. extended contract after that. He should be afraid. Agree. Even we all think he'd be a cap cut I do not see Okung being a 'cap cut' in the true sense, as signing any replacement OT would coast as much or more. Drafting a replacement would obviously be less cost. I do see Okung being a release because of injury/cost concerns combined. If I thought Okung was likely to get IR'd again, which I do believe, then I would move in another direction.

“ While the team has attempted to reassure him...” This makes me worried they really do think the OL is close. I read that like he's afraid of being a cap cut, and they said he's not. As far as another extended contract after that. He should be afraid. He should be a cap cut.

Brady ain’t coming and neither will any FA with a choice. Okung is out there saying he’s concerned about the team’s “direction” which is pointing down.

Rivers is way better.

It would be crazy to cut him. Who do you play in his place, Tevi, Scott, Pipkins? Be glad he's willing to come back.

Which is why I’d cut him. He has only played one 16-game season in his career. And the money saved could be put toward a 3-4 year deal with a better OT with more gas in the tank. The Chargers need two reliable anchors—and he isn’t likely to be one of them.

I would replace Okung because of the injury probability, but I would not release him until I replaced him. The question is where does that replacement come from ? FA.....Conklin perhaps, or draft....and that would almost certainly mean pick #6. (I would go draft, but 2nd or 3rd pick, maybe even both)

And if Okung’s health is good enough to take a lesser risk on, a rework adding a year but cutting the cost might give you a solid duo. I think the odds of him staying around this season go up if they choose draft for the other anchor.

I just don't see him as the chemistry guy the Chargers covet.

OPTION 2: Be Bold (or stupid crazy) the Chargers will move up to #2 in the draft for Tua. HIs young, a proven winner, has an arm and is mobile. Everything Lynn wants. Prediction. It will be Tyrod, Tua and Stick. React!!! This is the way. I wouldn't mind taking a chance and trading up. We can draft Tua and the opening day starter is Tyrod or Tua, I think this is the best way forward. Losing a couple of draft picks isn't the end of the world if you can land a new franchise QB. This should be followed by some nice OL FA signings, bringing back Hunter Henry, extending Bosa and giving Melvin Gordon a below market value contract offer. Tua is a lot more intriguing than similar trade up scenarios for Goff, Wentz, Darnold or Trubisky…..I think it will be worth it. I liked this plan early on, I like this plan today.

Let me tell you right here and now,,,,,,,, John Elway had ZERO fear when he FA Peyton Manning. He wasn't alone in Denver either.
