www.nfl.com/news/nfl-nflpa-discussing-plan-for-potential-player-opt-outs-in-2020So the NFL thinks some players may want to opt out of the season due to covid concerns... What do you guys think about this? IMHO players should not get paid their usual salaries, only guaranteed money per their contract and there should be no guarantees for regaining a starting position. If you lose your spot because you didn't want to play then oh well sucks to be you... Go earn it back. I can honestly see a majority of players coming back... Maybe a handful opt out, but there would be alot of pressure on stars to play on playoff teams... Could you imagine players like Mahomes, Jackson, Watson or Brady opting out?? The backlash would be huge...

In the NHL we have created a plan to play, and there is a window of time for players to opt out. Further more, there is an understanding between NHL/NHLPA that if 'enough players opt out to substantially diminish quality of play' there would be discussion about not playing at all. It will be interesting to see moving forward. As far as money goes, my personal feelings is 'no play, no pay'......but I doubt that would be the way it goes.
Do the starters not have to earn their starting over and over?

When the sports entertainment industry is no longer an escape and entertaining, it isn't worth supporting anymore. Same with the rest of the entertainment industry. I will not be surprised to see the support for the NFL in terms of viewership drop significantly.

Posted July 9, 2020 I truly don't want to be right about the idea I proposed months ago (April 13, 2020) of CANCELLING COLLEGE FOOTBALL and/or NO NFL SEASON, but...the dominos keep falling. I will ask you all again. 1. Would players with guaranteed contracts still get paid even if there's no season? 2. Would teams be able to keep players with expiring contracts (i.e. Bosa, Henry, Ingram, KA, King, etc) on the same contract for the 2021 season? 3. Would rosters need to be increased beyond 90 players due to having two new draft classes and even more undrafted FA on your preseason roster in 2021? 4. What happens to the 2021 draft...Is it fair to use the same draft order in 2021 as from 2020? 5. What if the Chargers in a weighted lottery got the #1 pick in the 2021 draft...would you take the top QB? What say you....especially to the one they call Freak who claims to see all.

You have to figure all teams in the same boat, the league will compromise. 3. What if the Chargers in a weighted lottery got the #1 pick in the 2021 draft...would you take the top QB? I would either trade herbert, then draft Lawrence, or trade the pick. Both for a boat load. What say you....especially to the one they call Freak who claims to see all. ok i'll play

You could take the best non-QB with the number 1 pick, trade back for more picks, trade Herbert and take the best QB, or draft the QB and trade Herbert later, Arizona did it. The league could log jam the draft too. Don't have a draft, then lump everyone into the next draft. Could you imagine the talent pool in that draft ?? The 64th pick would be a first round rated guy !

There is no possible way outside of WWIII that we have no season, for reasons Bleu has mentioned. There are wayyy to many ramifications and Goodell is not smart enough or have the energy to work through them.
Worst case scenario is we play to empty stadiums and some players opt out... It will be like that movie The Replacements.

Penguins in 4 games coming up. They OWN Price. The short answer is yes he does have to earn starting, just like the other players on club earn minutes. The caveat is goalies can play well, yet have poor numbers. Price is the poster child for fundamentals in how to play net, which is the main reason he was voted the best goalie by the NHL players, he is just always in the correct position for play. The way a club defeats a fundamentally sound goalie is by defeating his support. Take that as you will...... The Habs are a faster, younger club......it goes 5, and the Pens get a 12.5% chance at #1 pick.

Are you so completely delusional to think Carey freaking Price has to earn his starting and minutes every season from YOU ? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Your "short" answer of yes was all I needed to see that BS was going to follow it. As soon as you have to hedge your answer, I know its crap. Hey Bosa and Keenan Allen, get out there and earn your starting. Take Melvin Ingram with you..............................Get the hell out of here.

I have nothing to do with this decisions, that is all on CJ and his staff. Starts are for goalie, minutes is for player skating out. Lowering expectations cannot lead to positive results, and yes, every player has expectations placed on them by club. You see player going through with little effort, that player will not be in NHL long, eh. Not working, caring, putting in effort are all signs you wish a new job.

Sid the Kid LITERALLY came off a major concussion and was granted his minutes immediately first game back. Stars are stars, and team ain't keeping them off the field, or having fantasyboy competitions either. Hey Patrick Mahomes, we know you just signed for half a Billion dollars, but remember, you have camp competition with Arney Armthrow out of Sioux Falls College. C'mon man. Lets get real. For Pete's sake already.

In fact there is more of a shift from optimism to skepticism with each day that passes. If either experiment flops, good luck seeing any action from the NFL...

It is the worst case scenario in a normal world, but with COVID it is likely the best we can do. I just want football this year...
