I was on vacation when this all went down, so didn’t know all the details in real time, but I’d say this is worthy of extending this thread by one more most.
My reaction ?
The Lakers got their asses totally kicked in that trade, and Washington’s FO looks like a bunch of geniuses right now. They turned a horrendous John Wall contract into 5 solid players including 1 rising star (Dinwiddie) and the 2020 6th Man of the Year in just 1 year.
The Lakers did not sign Westbrook as the above post states, they traded for what is arguably the worst contract floating around the NBA right now. Russ is on his 3rd Team in 3 years, because he’s on the decline and not worth his ridiculous contract anymore. It’s become an annual game of “who is stupid enough to take him on this year” and this years winner is the Lakers ! We should start placing bets on which team he’ll be with next year.
Russ has declined so much, he didn’t even make the All-Star team last year in the “weak ass Eastern Conference” where even a putz like Khris Middleton can look like a star, right Moe ?
The Lakers gave away youth and promise, in exchange for a single declining player who will be nothing more than an impatient afterthought alongside LeBron & AD. Let me tell you too, a point guard who can’t hit a free throw is worth a TRILLION dollars in the final minute of a close game. Don’t believe me, ask Doc Rivers about Ben Simmons !
God Bless whoever decided to make that trade !
Funny, this is exactly what you said about Chris Paul last off season and he ended up in the Finals🤷🏽♂️
And Kyle Kuzma, Caldwell-Pope and Montrez is a great deal for Washington??? Cellar dwellers. Mark it down
There were other teams involved in the Westbrook trade too, and the Wizards also ended up with Spencer Dinwiddie (who I would trade for Russ straight up at this point) and Aaron Holliday. Definitely a nice package which all traces back to dealing John Wall last year. Meanwhile the Rockets are stuck with Wall’s exorbitant contract, and the Lakers just inherited Westbrook’s.
Washington would be cellar dwellers if they held on to Russ for another year, that’s for sure ! But adding the 5 players they just got to Bradley Beal, barring any bad injuries, I definitely like that teams chances of making the playoffs (much more than I would with Russ or John Wall).
Lastly, it was only 2-3 weeks ago that you said the Suns only made the Finals because of injuries to their opponents in each round of the playoffs. So I’m just wondering if that’s still the case, or if you are now suggesting it was because of Chris Paul playing like a $41.5 million player...
