For some reason, this question popped back into my mind today at around 12:55 PST. When there was just over a minute left in the Chargers / Browns game . . . . I see what you did there, ltoc. And I agree with you 100% Staley keeps doubling down on the decision instead of just saying we got lucky. But by the way we’ve never been lucky. At least good lucky

I personally think Staley is going for notorious status in the NFL. No other reason to coach like that.

I personally think Staley is going for notorious status in the NFL. No other reason to coach like that. I think dude wants to win and has always thought NFL coaches to be to conservative. So he gets risky, and as of right now more often then not it has paid off. I wouldn't expect him to "learn any lessons".
Whenever he has been questioned about it he has always stayed consistent with his answers. The LA Chargers will be aggressive.

We arguably missed the playoffs last year because of it, but I agree with you that he won't change or make any apologies.

The interesting thing to me about Staley is he’s willing to make risky calls on offense but plays very conservatively on defense. We don’t play an attacking style instead keeping “a roof over it” and laying back. I’d like to see more aggression on defense. Send Derwin more. Send tranquil more. Those guys have shown they can get home. We had zero pressure against the Browns

That's just crazy for what we did this offseason and who Staley is advertised as.

If we miss the playoffs and have a mid to bottom defense then I’d not be surprised if they bring in another coaching staff. You can’t lose with Herbert and have a poorly performing D if you’re a D coach with a lot of cap space and big names (your guys) you brought in via free agency on that side of the ball.

The Defensive Coordinator is on the hotseat. He has some great tools and isn't turning out a quality product.

I think Staley has to own that, unless he’s going to say Hill is a true DC and the shot caller. Hill might be the scapegoat but you can’t waste Herbert and have a bad D when you’re a D guru HC.

This is all on Staley. Does anybody think in their right mind that we’re playing the Renaldo Hill defense? Of course not

Those guys have shown they can get home. We had zero pressure against the Browns That kind of folds into the whole (ridiculous) go-for-it-on-4th-down decision. That wasn't aggressive. It was stupid. Staley said, in defending it, "I have a lot of trust in our guys on both sides of the ball." Well, if that were so, why not punt it away and trust your D not to give up 50 or so yards in under a minute to a team with no time outs? The guy is walking cliche with an affected manner. The gum smacking, the choppy cadence, it is the opposite of the "Mike McCoy 1,000 yard stare" -- but it is perhaps even more irritating. And both signal a head coach who is in over his head.

It seems to me that he’s in over his head too. Sad to say. Don’t know how many times I’ve said the chargers have only been successful when hiring someone that has been successful as a HC before. It’s just historical fact. He’s not dead yet and still has a chance to turn it around but I’ve lost confidence. Didn’t help that he hired an inexperienced DC. No adult in the room

Exactly... Ranking 30th in the league on defense and going for it on our own 40 yard line tells me he is a liar.
