He is no big player in Gus' defence, he is a big player in the ST's scheme. Nobody is going to offer him big money/term, he isn't talented enough, and will be 29.....it is a young mans game. Your first sentence is just flat out wrong. He was a key cog in Gus D’s hybrid scheme. Joe and you basically wrote the same sentence. Read it again.

Listen gang, the Goalie has a point, he just brings it the wrong way. He's not trashing AP, its just his way. If you aren't hand delivering Latte's to him, then you are of no value to him.
Heaven help me, I have to help the Goalie...........what have I been reduced to..................
Where do we start class ? Snaps and playing time is a good place to start. AP got those snaps and starts because all of our LB's were hurt. You darn well know it too. He is that tweener. Not big enough to be a LB, not good enough to be a safety. You can write fancy Hybrid/Special/Razzle Dazzle all you want to, it is what it is. He's built more for safety, but he ain't beating out Derwin James. Telesco is thinking "If our LB's stay healthy, your snap count is going straight down the toilet, I'm not paying for that."
The upside is in his value. All Pro ST (amazing accomplishment, so proud). I thought he was really good in his special role on the field in 2018. The last part is he is proven tremendous value on the depth chart. You make him play LB, and he'll get by there. You make him sub at safety and you got solid enough play there. Teams can't have 11 All Pro's on their defense. AP is one of those value players who can step in when called upon. All teams need them.

We played more Hybrid Prius Corn Flake Special defense because of the depletion at LB. C'mon man. its me. He's built more for safety, but he ain't beating out Derwin James. "Coach Bradley, you have shown us the Hybrid Super Special Corn Flake Defense, but what does it all mean ??"
Bradley: "What it means guys is we are out of Linebackers so we have to put 7 DB's on the field, and we have good news and bad news. If we pull it off against Baltimore's 1933 Four Horseman Wing T offense we will be all of the talk on NFL Network for exactly one week !!! Then modern day Belichick will shred us like Frosted Mini Wheat's. Have a good post season. Everybody gather in. Ready ? Brady on three. One, two, threeeeeeeee !!!!"

There is no need to quote the gibberish above.
NLB = Thomas Davis + Adrian Phillips.
This is pretty much our base defense.

The one year contract for AP sounds like a prove it year as a starting FS. I think he'll get a shot with Watkins, Jenkins, later round draft pick as the backup plans. He played a unique role for the Bolts last year and made a lot of plays... we'll see if it translates to FS. Personally, I have more confidence in him as a FS than I did Addae. And if it doesn't work out at FS... we can always slide him down to the hybrid spot and use him like we did last year.

There is no need to quote the gibberish above. NLB = Thomas Davis + Adrian Phillips. This is pretty much our base defense. Good point Wood. Look at it this way: On passing downs, when we are in our nickel package and some other packages, we get:
Thomas Davis--6 passes defensed and 79 tackles in only 12 games last year Jatavis Brown--5 passes defensed, 97 tackles in 15 games last year Adrian Phillips--9 passes defensed, 1 pick and 94 tackles in 16 games last year Derwin James, 13 passes defensed, 3 picks, 105 tackles in 16 games last year
Folks, now with the addition of Davis, this is the best coverage LB/S group we've had in years. AP's special teams talents are just icing on the cake. You better believe I'm glad we kept him. I'm just a little surprised it's only for 1 year. I thought AP deserved more like 2-3 years, but hey, I guess it gives TT and the Bolts more flexibility in the future.

Latte's......I know nothing about them. I like AP, like the signing as well, but I am not elevating it to more than what it is. Very good player in ST's, complimentary player in the D. Very similar to my view of TW. Love to have him on roster, but losing him doesn't devastate our chances in any way.

He’s one of our “core guys”—A. Lynn Pretty much what a HC is supposed to say........is it not ? If a HC refers to a player as a "core guy," translation is, he's a starter or important backup he would like to keep on the team.
If a HC refers to a player as a "valuable member of our team," translation is he's a starter or backup who could be cut and upgraded by someone else.

This is one of those exceedingly rare occasions (like a Blood Moon AND a near miss asteroid at the same time) where a post is nominated that trashes another post that is also nominated. Congrats, Woodeye.
