Freak what’s the feeling in the Burgh? Time to move on from Tomlin? Hasn’t he been there longer than Cowher at this point? Cowher 15 years, Tomlin 16th year. The fans here are spoiled. So you don't do SB, they do not like you. The fans want to move on. The trouble is the Rooney family. HC is a job for life with them. Tony Dungy told Tomlin to take the job: "You'll be there for life !". Their last loss was unique though. Tomlin said paraphrasing. "We were bad in all 3 phases. I don't have the answers because if I did we would not be bad in all 3 phases." It was a strange admission. That’s one thing I like about Tomlin. Actually I like his toughness too. But he said earlier what we’re doing disldnt work so we’re going to have to make changes. Instead of we had a plan just didn’t execute

Coaching matters: The Rams sold their soul to win a SB. I think they had 30 rookies in camp this year. They are 7-7 and fighting for a playoff spot. : Sean McVay That’s the story in LA. Chargers were supposed to contend, Rams were rebuilding and it would take a year or two. Instead the Rams hit a home run with Pacua taken in the 5th and Kyren Williams taken in the 5th the prior year. Rb and Wr stars. Their leaky OL has been a strength instead and defensive plays well. It’s a testament to McVay and the GM

A 'decade plus' seems overly optimistic, eh

A 'decade plus' seems overly optimistic, eh its just exciting to see them talking to big names, if the story is accurate.

In that view, I was reading some article on the subject, GM and HC openings, and J Spanos was quoted quite a bit. If the quotes are reasonably accurate, J Spanos is definitely FOS.....

Interesting viewpoint.....but with the Chargers there are three things needed. Quarterback....Herbert....check. Head coach...Harbaugh....check. Tell J Spanos to shut up and get out of the way.......there is the problem in Chargerville.

John Spanos was asked what the limits were on hiring the next HC. "No limitations."

I seriously doubt that they previously had jumped on team personal decisions.
The Spanos problem has always been one of front office choices and external to the cap spending.
"Tom, get the best coach for the job under 5 mill a year" or having a set budget for the coaching and front office staff.
"in order for us to improve out profit margins we need to keep the coaching staff total labor costs below (some number)" And then incentivize meeting that budget for Billy Mac.

There are also reports that the Raiders have a contract ready to sign for Harbaugh and that Tom Brady (UM alum) and his agent Don Yee are involved.

I think that is more media than fact. I don't think you spend a quarter of a billion dollars in players salaries a year then try to save a few bucks on a head coach. I do believe that the front office thought that they were closer than they really were. Staley's hiring was widely applauded and many thought we had found the defensive Sean McVay. Sean Payton was not available at that point and if I recall all the other serious candidates were coordinators as well. From what I have read, the Spanos family is widely respected amongst the other owners. I think it's philosophy and culture that are the barriers and not the checkbook. The media needs clicks and the cheap Spanos family seems to get them that. Just like the inaccurate "Coupon Tom" nonsense. The irony is that by over spending on guys like JC Jackson, Telesco was shown the door. That and not picking the right HC multiple times.
