Would be nice to just get a two year deal that frees some money for others. Rivers has never been the guy that takes less Is anyone suggesting Rivers should take less???

Is anyone suggesting Rivers should take less??? yes. I am. Especially, if we want to sign an extra FA or two. Rivers has already earned every dime he can get in his next contract. On and off the field he is a great Charger. Rivers won't get Wilson or next-contract Mahomes money, but the market for him has been set by Brees, Brady, Roethlisberger, etc. so we should expect him to sign in their ballpark. Most importantly, there's no reason to devalue him and not pay him the going rate for being THE leader on the field and THE face of the franchise for over a decade.

Actually there's two good reasons.First those three q.b.s mentioned all have at least one championship under their belt and the second reason is cap space. If the most important thing at this late stage of his career is finally winning a ring for himself and his teammates he should consider taking a lil smaller slice of the moolah pie so we could possibly aquire some of the missing f.a. pieces to make it to the big show

And he's supposed to take a pay cut? That's not how it's done in the NFL: neither championship nor non-championship starting quarterbacks have ever done that to my knowledge. When you're talking about taking a paycut, it's "Take this paycut or we cut you" kind of deal. The way cap numbers get reduced in the NFL (and it's the way that Brady and all others do it as well) is by one of the following two ways: (1) If you're in the last year of a contract, extend the contract for multiple years, pay bonus $$$ upfront that can be spread across multiple seasons, and reduce the overall cap hit for the current season, or (2) If you're in the middle of a contract, pay the majority of the year's pay as a bonus that can be spread across multiple seasons, and drastically cut the current season's year's salary so that the overall cap hit for the season is reduced by several million dollars PR has done it both ways multiple times during his Chargers career (extensions and restructures), and I see no reason why he won't do it again when his agent and Ed McGuire start discussing $$$ on an extension.

Here's what's interesting about this - PR is so fired up and intense - actually hyper most of the time but he's completely laid back regarding the contract talk. Is this really him talking?

There are rumors that Dak Prescott is going to get over 30 Million dollars a year. He has never won a SB.
You can plan on Rivers doing around 30 million dollars a year, and go from there.
He's doing about 20 million a year now. You can officially kiss that goodbye.

You mean the guy whose wife’s net worth is over $250+ million? How much does Tiffany pull in while caring for the nine children? BTW Brady’s cap price for 2019 is almost $4 million more than PR’s.

It's really irrelevant what Brady's wife makes. Or is it your opinion that Rivers needs to make more money to take care of his family? He can't make ends meet?

Offer him a ham sandwich to start, see if he bites.

How bout offer him a real shot at finally winning a ring and making his career worth it?Don't try and cash in and give thos team enough breathing room financially to grab more pieces to the puzzle. This window will not stay open very long.

Future HOF QB Philip Rivers' career allowing him a lavish lifestyle and a family so large you'd have to take your shoes off to count them all hasn't been "worth it". An outlook so bleak I want to swallow a bullet when I think about my own life in comparison.

The GOAT only makes 4 mil more than the guy who has never won a Championship and last signed a contract 4 years ago Um........ok.
