We'll see. TT doesn't work on the draft in a closet. The current draft team ( TT, Spanos & scouts, Lynn & coaching staff) who are in their 3rd year together have drafted OLs Lamp (injured), Feeney (starter, albeit struggled as a soph), Tevi (reserve who started when #1 RT Barksdale had emotional breakdown) and Quisenberry (backup C/G). Not a stellar record but not exactly "sucks". Trey impressed at the Shrine game vs quality college opponents. Very athletic 6-6, 305 OTs who are bright, quick learners, who don't allow sacks aren't all that common. I prefer to opine that Pipkins unique, modest background may have allowed LAC to acquire a top talent at a bargain price. I'm not sure where this narrative is coming from. Most of his snaps came against Mathieu Betts (Laval University, Quebec). He had some snaps against Malik Carney (UDFA) and Cortez Broughton (Chargers 6th). Both beat him once with inside moves. He had several snaps against Jordan Brailford (Redskins 7th). But Brailford beat him twice (badly) and then the West team covered Pipkins with a TE for the remainder of Brailford/Pipkins snaps. Am I un-neccessarily being a Negative Nancy...? Maybe. But moreso, I think we need to curb our enthusiasm about Pipkins until we see what he can do against NFL caliber pass rushers. This guy is a raw prospect. I do like his 2nd level blocking and he looks comfortable out in space. But he's not going to be asked to protect PR's blindside any time soon. I have more confidence in Lamp at OT than Pipkins at this point. Well I would not be proclaiming Pipkins as the starting LOT anytime soon, but he does bring plenty to like to the table, so here is to hoping the OL coaching can bring him along the development path as is the plan. Maybe Pipkins can become a solid ROT, which is a real need....... I am hoping Lamp can play.....

Others in attendance who liked what they saw of Pipkins included Paul Guilamette - Trey was a "Shrine Game All Star" and Emory Hunt, in interview" I didn't see you lose a single rep" in practice. Apparently he wasn't looking at the right moments. Betts wouldn't surprise me, he reportedly beat everyone he faced. No doubt somewhat an exaggeration also but I gather that he was an eye opener. I'll go with the Chargers' staff assessment. I have no reason to do otherwise. Actual performance in the coming months will give a stronger basis for fan evals. Well, you can watch the game for yourself... Pipkins plays @ 24:10 - 47:00 on the tape if you don't want to watch the whole game. The Brailford excerpt occurs between 28:25 - 31:55. Pipkins plays again from 1:41:50 - 1:52:30 later in the game. And like I said, it's not all bad. You can see the athleticism. Just don't expect him to displace Okung any time soon. He probably won't even be an upgrade over Tevi this coming season.

This is my biggest hope as well. Chargers might be forced to try Lamp at RT this year. It's where I thought he belonged all along.

He probably won't even be an upgrade over Tevi this coming season. Practices all week are even more important than the games when it comes to the Shrine and Senior Bowl Games. Many scouting teams leave Mobile as soon as the practices end, so the game film is an incomplete picture of how the player performed during the entire process. Tom Telesco: “It’s not as big as what they did in college in the fall, but it’s certainly bigger than what they’ll do at the combine because at least at the Senior Bowl they have a helmet and shoulder pads on and they’re playing real football rather than at the combine running around cones and hitting a pad. So, this is real football and it’s good competition, so they’re playing – it’s the best against the best; best seniors against the best seniors. So, every rep in practice, you know it’s a quality rep and they’re going against somebody who’s probably going to play in the NFL as well. So, (it’s) a great evaluation tool. It’s (an) up close and personal look at these players. Our scouts will spend a lot of time with them, just talking with them, getting to know them as people, which we can’t do on campus very often during the fall. So, this is the first time we can really start spending some time with these players and see what makes them tick, and just to see them live.” chargerswire.usatoday.com/2019/01/23/tom-telesco-senior-bowl-is-more-important-than-the-combine/

Well I hope he was a stone wall in practices then. Because his Shrine game was nothing to brag about. At this point, his pass blocking needs help... if we're going by game tape.
Did you watch the game tape I time stamped for you...?

First, I guess you destroyed woodeye so you could turn into him, and his Watt OL special busts. Second, and more important, I want you to follow very closely here.........I hope the player goes All_pro. It only helps our team. But lets be crystal clear here, he was completely and utterly overdrafted. Like, 2 Rounds type of early reach overdrafted. Not the end of the world, they obviously targeted the guy. You like a guy, you target a guy, go get your guy. It's pretty obvious they fell in love with him at his East West Shrine game. No problem, draft him. But he was an early bird special. Of that there is no talky talk. Woodmod no longer visits by his own choosing. Kempish. But you can blame my lack of vision and judgement as the catapult. Pipkins is as much a reach as Lamp is a bust at this point. Why in the hell would I blame you when the goalie is right here, ripe for my picking ?

I didn't get to attend the Shrine practices & game where Pipkins made a big impression. Rumors were that LAC wasn't the only interested team. Pretty sure TT made the right move based on his info. Given that, I'd have made the same choice. I think the use of the 3rd rd pick on him will prove to be a very wise decision. You are trapped in your own evil, and I am just the guy to display it for you. Before I forget, he was overdrafted/early, and nothing on earth is going to change that either. He can end up being Jason Peters, but at the end of April 2019, he was drafted early. You hate our OL. Specifically you have called OT a great need for our team. Ok. So Pipkins Pumpkin solved that need ? Lots of 3rd rounders have been rookie starters, especially on the offensive lines. Do you see that for Pipkins ? If you don't, then lets take some shine off the luster here. You have never liked Okung, is Pipkins replacing him ? Here I'll make it easy, Tevi. Is Pipkins replacing Tevi at RT ? I'll make it double easy !! You have stated that if we lose a starting tackle and its all over for us. If a starting tackle gets hurt carrying luggage late summer, are we ok because we have Pipkins from Freaking Fracking Sioux Falls College ? Don't try any of this "Raw" "Moldable" "Project" BS that I am reading on here either. That kind of crap is for 7th Rounders and UDFA's. You burn MYYYYYYYYYYY 3rd Round Draft Capital on someone, he has to be at least NFL Ready right freakin' now. This should be AT A MINIMUM Swing Tackle material on our Tackle starved team right now ! "But but but but but Emperor, we like to fantasize that he'll be semi-ready by the end of 2023" !!! Get the hell out of my palace with that.

I do acknowledge that your rankings are shared by many of the talking heads, which is probably where you got your rankings. I do not hate the OL......I do have a critical eye, and I see plenty of need in the OL group. I do not dislike Okung, I do think he is close to the end, and there is nobody in the system that comes close to his play. Losing Okung would be disastrous. Pouncy falls into this same category, but perhaps Quiz is a viable OC, but losing Pouncy would not be as bad as losing Okung, but still not be good. Quiz is no Pouncy.... LG, RG and ROT all need to be addressed..... Tevi at ROT, we saw that..... Feeney at LG, we saw that..... Lamp...where ? If Lamp hasn't lost the talent needed due to his injury, where does he play ? Boltnut thinks ROT.....maybe, maybe not. Pipkins, where does he fit in, if at all ? Who knows at this point, but I like the pick. I do think TT made a mistake in using a pick on a QB we do not need. That pick should have been OL, probably an OG. TC 2019 will see plenty of opportunity for UDFA OL players, wonder why that is.....

Because you had never heard of him.
Everybody in Mock listed name after name after name on this Board. Did ANYONE have him listed ? What round did they list him ?
But now we lovey dovey him iN THE THIRD ROUND ? C'mon man. I'm WAY smarter than that. I thought you were to. Don't disappoint me.

That also means that you weakly tried to prove me wrong by looking it up. Dose of reality to find out I was correct.
Never doubt me. Ever.

The call from the Chargers completed an unlikely journey for Pipkins. Last season, he played games against the likes of Winona State, Bemidji State and Upper Iowa...................
SWEET DAY OF THE MORNING !!!! The only thing higher than his weight is my blood pressure.

The only thing higher than his weight is my blood pressure. Who did HOFer Larry Allen play against his senior season at Sonoma State??? And Jimmy Johnson reached for him in the 2nd round!!! Oh, my heart palpitations!!!! One never knows.
