Pipkins is a bust. He is the new Lamp. Or is he?...Disc likes him. hmm.. maybe we can move him to safety. If anything we should be worried about our 1st round pick. Will he be a day one starter? I like the thought process that was used to determine Pipkins was the guy to take.........I have no idea if Pipkins will become what they are hoping for.

Thanks! It was a mixed bag. He was beaten twice by a rip, seemed to tick him off since he pancakes his guy next down. He moves well. IMO his success or failure will be the result of his level of dedication to training. Good raw material, good size, feet & athleticism. NFL Translation: Rivers got killed, and the tackle got an angry penalty on the next play.
Can't wait.
Chargerfreak fantasy. Rivers is invulnerable.
Why wait? Feeney & Tevi gave up a lot of hits last year. Watch those games.

I have no idea whether Pipkins will be a "bust" or not. Nobody does. Not even TT. But what I can tell you is he was a reach that was taken before OT's that can help their teams this year. Jets took Chuma Edoga who will push Brandon Shell as starter at RT this year... and likely replace him next year. The Rams took Bobby Evans who will replace Andrew Whitworth next year. He will be NFL ready enough to play if Whitworth or Havenstein go down to injury. The Patriots took Yodny Cajuste that will push Marcus Cannon this year... and likely replace him next year.
Jets: Kelvin Beachum, Brandon Shell, Chuma Edoga. Rams: Andrew Whitworth, Rob Havenstein, Bobby Evans, David Edwards Patriots: Isaiah Wynn, Marcus Cannon, Yodny Cajuste
Chargers: Russell Okung, Sam Tevi, Trey Pipkins
Okung's (78.4) contract ends in 2 years. That's a lot of ground to cover for Pipkins... My fingers are crossed in regards to TT's gamble.

Those teams you have used as examples just 'hope' their picks do what you are saying, but the GM's do not know any more than TT knows. Pipkins is most likely a ROT, or so I think......which is my concern, as it means TT has kicked the LOT can down the road once again.

I actually think Pipkins' ceiling and overall rawness is better for us than the other tackles you mentioned. You also have to take into account scheme fit.

Good to know TT has not kicked the can, bad to know they think Pipkins is going to be their answer at LOT.......the jump is really big from his college to replacing Okung in the NFL. I am not saying no way, but call me skeptical......I sure hope they are correct in the evaluations.

He doesn't have any built in bad habits that are going to hard to break. So he's probably seen as more moldable by the coaches. He seems like a smart guy so it may be a quicker process. Dielman, for example, took two years before becoming a starter but he was also a UDFA DL before moving to OL.

But rawness was not what I was looking for. I was looking for RT starter and eventual Okung replacement. In a couple years (if all goes right) he may... may be ready to take over at LT. But he offers no immediate help at RT this year, IMO. Whereas, the afore mentioned OT's all would have supplanted Tevi this year. Are we trying to win PR a SB or what...?

Either the FO thinks that the aforementioned OTs are not going to be better than Tevi, or Lamp is moving to RT. I'm leaning towards the former.

A) Not really feeling a lot of confidence in our FO right now. B) Almost anyone would be better than Tevi right now. C) Praying/hoping/performing archaic rituals/dances/sacrifices that the latter is true. #Free Woodeye #Free Lamp

The difference in Fluker's play between having Clary and the nobodies that played RG for Fluker was huge...and Clary wasn't a great OG, just a big hearted vet ex- RT.
