I wasn’t on this forum when michael last started for the chargers so not sure how you guys feel about him. I thought he was a servicable guard and had no idea he had played some tackle for the broncos in the past. Anyways, durable, experienced guy, servicable, started a ton of games at guard and has some tackle experience. Looks like they’re rolling with norton as the RT which is fine, at least there is another body now between norton and pipkins! Assuming of course that schofield doesn’t become the starter later on due to his experience. Does anyone know how he did in carolina last year?

Schofield was the starting right tackle on the Broncos 2015 Super Bowl-winning squad. It wouldn't shock me if he moves there should Norton struggle, but he serves as very serviceable depth who has familiarity with the franchise.

Hopefully he picks up the playbook quickly because he’s not a swing tackle, he’s played RG or RT his whole career but mostly RG. It’s wonderful to have an experienced guy that can fill those two needs but norton can fill in at LT so I’d rather see him stay as the swing. I suppose it’ll take few weeks to learn what the plan is. at this point bulaga could come back in three weeks or we could learn that he’s opted to have season ending back surgery? But that back thing goes back to last season, so who knows what’ll happen.

So hypothetical here, let’s say bulaga comes back in a few weeks. Does that mean pipkins finally gets his walking papers?

Completely crazy here but what’s the point of having a reserve on the roster that no one wants to see on the field? This coming Sunday I’ll light some candles for him at church and pray for a miracle. Maybe he’ll magically develop into a starting caliber NFL tackle, there’s always next year, right? BTW, I don’t hate, hate’s not my thing. Pipkins is obviously a wonderful young kid that represents what the organization wants in a player as a person. Unfortunately something is missing, whatever that is, I hope he finds it and proves that TT didn’t waste a 3rd round pick on a kid he probably could’ve drafted in round 7 or signed in UDRFA.

Popper posted this tonight after viewing the All 22 tape yesterday: _____ With Bulaga out, and Norton presumably coming in, what did you think of Norton’s performance on Sunday and what it means going forward? — @ultiimatelaxbro Storm Norton will start Sunday’s game at right tackle, according to Staley. After watching the tape, I actually thought Norton played a fine game. He had one bad rep, and that came on Justin Herbert’s sack-fumble in the red zone. Norton was matched up with Montez Sweat and got beat badly off the edge one-on-one. But that was really his only glaringly bad rep in the game. He mostly held up otherwise and even effectively blocked Chase Young one-on-one in pass protection on multiple occasions. They will need to give Norton help, even with the Cowboys injuries on the edge. DeMarcus Lawrence landed on IR with a broken foot, and Randy Gregory remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The Chargers will need to chip on Norton’s side with running backs and tight ends. They did plenty of that against Washington after Norton replaced Bulaga for the second half. theathletic.com/2832933/2021/09/17/austin-ekelers-usage-and-how-the-chargers-will-replace-chris-harris-mailbag/

Most teams don’t have two stud tackles that can handle rushers one on one all game long. Norton had a couple of nice games last year, but against depleted front 7 of dallas? he’ll be fine…

First off, Pipkins is not seeing the field because of Slater.......but, in the event that there is a need, I am not as afraid as you about Pipkins playing. As a reserve player, there are clearly shortcomings, but the staff is well aware of these deficiencies and will plan accordingly. Stop taking things/words so literally....Hate for example. Clearly your eye tells you Pipkins should be on the street, and certainly not on a NFL club. Just as clearly, the people that actually get paid to evaluate player talent do not agree with your evaluation of Pipkins. Your comments about TT and the Pipkins pick just further my belief you are letting a bias influence your evaluations, be it TT's drafting or Pipkins' playing. Pipkins was a 3rd rd pick, been around a few seasons, probably never being more than a reserve player. Boy, that outcome is super rare for 3rd rd picks.....tabernak.
