This would be a great move. That’s how I know it won’t happen. It seems I'll be in the minority on this hypothetical proposed trading of Joey Bosa and Derwin James. But I say there's no way you should trade either of these guys. Yes, in hindsight they have not always been available and maybe neither is the TOP at his position. But both are excellent players already. A draft pick ALWAYS brings the chance of a bust or an injury ( Charger fans know all about that!) What would we want with our first round pick? I'll tell you- we'd want a really good pass rusher, maybe someone kind of like... IDK... Joey Bosa?? Or maybe we'd want to upgrade our secondary with an athletic specimen at Safety, kind of like... IDK... Derwin James?? Out of the 32 first rounders picked every draft, how many actually live up to the potential super-star level? Half? Maybe less? Give me the proven quantity. No one is perfect so I'll live with a few frustrations and take the bad with the good, I mean GREAT! Yet, a draft pick is one thing, 135 Million dollar contract is another.

Here is my take on it: We can't go trading our only two Pro Bowlers on defense. It seems to me that our depth sucks. So keep most of the starters, use free agency. Use the draft for depth too. As bad as the stats are, and they are bad. We are not that far away. Our secondary has talent. Add/Change the front 7. It is going to take a little more, but merely adding a talented DT and ILB would be a BIG step in helping.

Their value is never going to be this high again. (remember, as GM I have decided I will not win a Super Bowl with either player, so bold moves make for bold results) Yes, TT can use their lack of availability against them to drive down cost, but that is a tactic that creates hard feelings. Bosa wants out already, in my view, and James just can't stay healthy. Both have so much talent, Jax would drool at adding them, but it would be a mistake to do so. The hard part of this fantasy trade would be flipping the #1 overall pick for the return I suggested. Allowing them to be distributed over time seems like the only way to get that strong of a return. Adding SIX first round picks over only three seasons, all on low cost contracts, blends perfectly with Herbert's contract timeline. Don't fall in love with players, they are assets to be used to get to the championship....win a Super Bowl. Bosa and James have serious flaws, time to move them before the rest of the league acknowledges these flaws.....and value drops.

But I'll let Joe McRugby take over from here.
