Taylor is not an interception machine like Smith. Good move.

Ian Rappaport tweeted that Tyrod Taylor has agreed to terms with the Chargers on a 2 year deal. My initial reaction is that I love this signing over what we have right now. People react! Does this mean that Smith & Jones are both gone? Shimmy to the practice squad!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me help with the "Definitely shows more potential over Geno Smith and Cardale Jones" part: Tyrod Taylor is about 25 levels over Smith and Jones. Starter QB. He could literally be our future starter. I SAID COULD. the other 2 never could. I said never. I was just having this conversation with someone. We agreed our future QB is not on the roster. Moreover, i expressed my fear that if PR were to go down, we were done. That just changed. Taylor can win games, definitely pinch hitting. Its a smart, smart, signing. I 100% agree! We were always in that limbo since I could ever remember as a kid watching the Chargers play. We haven't had anyone who could fill in and give confidence to fans since the days where we had Drew Brees and Rivers on the team. Unless I'm missing someone, please name another back up QB who has that pedigree that Taylor has as a backup on the Chargers? I will wait. Brees + Rivers is hard to beat. I did like Billy Volek back when we had him. Thought he was one of the better backups in the league - and he helped us make that 4th quarter comeback against the Colts in the 2008 playoffs after Rivers went down with an injury 🙌😄

That makes me feel a lot better about our QB situation. He is better than more than a few starting QBs out there.

Could this signing mean that the Chargers might use a mid-round pick on a QB they think might have some promise to be a starter? Since Taylor is only signed for two years, that would give the rookie some time to learn and develop, and we would not have to worry about using a rookie if Rivers had to miss some time.

Chargers might jump at a later round QB they like but I believe they feel Rivers has 2-3 years left and will try to get him the players needed to win this year.

But in answer to your question -- Billy Volek. He was widely considered the best backup in the NFL during his tenure. bleacherreport.com/articles/804682-san-diego-chargers-billy-volek-nfls-greatest-back-up(Nice to see Abild remember, as well).

Did anybody see BUF vs JAX AFCWCG in Jan 2018 ? Good grief. Tyrod is TMobile yes. Accuracy can be an issue.
