The difference between the two is Geno's yardage was mainly based on scrambles where the defense is playing back for the pass (i.e., 3rd and long, etc.) where the QB can pick up relatively meaningless yards.

Tyrod quite often ran on designed run plays where defenses were expecting and defending for the run with not many "meaningless yards" puffing up his average. Smith has good mobility, but Taylor is a horse of a different color: a weapon with his legs who can also pass accurately. A big upgrade IMO.
