Nowhere in the foreseeable future barring a catastrophic injury or a sudden downturn in play, so no need to waste a draft pick on a QB in 2019. I don't believe that you and I are on a different page, Wood. Unless the retirement is forced by an injury, I have a feeling that PR will give TT, the Spanos' and the coaching staff a heads up when PR feels that he'll be heading into his final season, so having a backup QB like Tyrod is ideal in the current setting. Great post where we are on exactly the same page. For about a year or more it has dawned on me. PR has already given the team a timeline, and every year he revisits it with them. That is the only way Telesco drafts the way he does. No first round QB's because it does not fit Rivers timeline retirement. One would have to imagine plenty of conversations between both Rivers and TT on this. If TT takes a QB in the 1st rd, it might be our first indicator that Rivers has told TT this is my last season.

That's what I've been saying all along. Rivers is a very loyal person and I'm sure he knows how important it will be to the team to have a QB in place when he retires. He'll give them a heads up when the time has come.
Meanwhile, this team is not to far away from being a SB team. Use those picks to fill in the remaining needs.

I believe Rivers is loyal to the club, and will give them a heads up about his plans. Replacing Rivers will not necessarily be a one draft pick and problem solved event though, as franchise QB's are not easily found. The Bolts' roster is more than a player or two from Super Bowl level talent, but you are correct in that TT should keep building the roster, and not waste any pick on a QB.

I'd agree with the lone exception being a Day 2 or Day 3 BPA situation. If a QB is rated as BPA and is there, I'd take him. At worst, if Rivers goes 2 more years, you have trade ammo for later (as per the Pats, who have traded idk how many QBs)

I am thinking TT does not draft a QB this year.

Tyrod is a big upgrade over Smith & Jones. 'Nuff said... TC has the correct answer.....and there isn't anything more to it. [br My opinion differs. It's not just about the talent, but the cash. I don't see the value at that price point. Agree to disagree respectfully though.

Agree to disagree respectfully though. I am with you about the cost, it seemed to be high to me as well. That said, you get what you pay for, eh ? Perhaps the plan was to lose both Smith and Jones, carry one reserve QB, and another UDFA on the practice squad.....

Pretty much what I said, without actually naming just whom that QB backing up Rivers will be. It would be stunning to see either Smith or Jones beat out Taylor.......almost as stunning as AL actually moving on from Jones. TC 2019 will be fun for many reasons.....
