If I am TT, there is a serious discussion with Staley about the coaching structure on the D side. The results scream change is needed..... Bring in an experienced, proven, DC...... Have an agreement with Staley that during games the influence Staley has on D play calling is nuanced. IE 'let's be aggressive here', or 'let's go full bltz', or 'let's be smart, not too aggressive'.....but the actual call is the DC's to make. For whatever reason, what they are doing is clearly not working, as the statistics and D rankings speak loudly. If Staley refuses, fire him on the spot. It's more complicated than that. The ownership already bought his sell of goods that he was this defense genius. Now you want them to admit they were wrong. No coach wants his replacement to be on the staff with him, and an "experienced, proven, DC" is exactly that. I think Staley sold his vision on how to play, versus his accomplishments on defence. The vision or approach as I understand it is quite interesting, but it needs talented players that blur the traditional positional definitions.....James is probably the only player they have that fits that. Maybe Mack and Jackson.....but clearly not enough. Most HC's do not spend time on worrying about being replaced......

You think you would have learned by now...............

If Sean Payton is hired by the Chargers or any team to be their head coach next season, do they have to give the Saints something in compensation still?
If so, what?

He is under contract with the Saints through 2024. If some team wants to sign him then they have to compensate the Saints. Draft picks or money. What it would be is all negotiable.

Is he? I realize Staley comes from that side, and certainly has a say at critical moments, but I just do not believe Staley is making every D call through the game. He is making the calls, you can see him doing it every play he also makes the play calls during all the practices we have been able to see. Staley talks on his headset, refers to his notes on offense too. I think Lombardi is involved with offensive play calls regardless. I never see Hill. BS gets the camera. Does Hill have a connection to the green dot helmet? Where is he during games? At practices? Is he just DC in name only? What do we pay him for? How much?

Neither of which TT and the Spanos like to part with. Payton is a pipe dream.

Our hurdle is the owners here. Sean Payton will command top dollar, he was one of the top when he took a year off, and the Spanos' have never shown that they will pay it.

If the timing is right, Staley's low, low contract would be pennies to the big boy pants contract Payton would get. Baby Opie's contract is not even a consideration.
