I'm not a college football super fan and therefore not very knowledgeable about a lot of the draft prospects. I was slightly surprised by our first three picks, just meaning I predicted a different direction based off mocks and media and my own worthless gut feeling. And with the exception of Rice, I had no idea who any of our later picks were until after I looked them up. But my point is this- after proper consideration I am very happy with the players we drafted! The Chargers made fitting and appropriate choices and exercised good decision making and seemed to stay true to a very mature draft strategy. I can really see a "we have at a need at X and it gets fixed by drafting XYZ" without overdrafting (often getting value of a player expected to go higher) and not making any head-scratcher choices. Even some of the initially puzzling picks made more sense after I read about dots connecting them back to the Bolts like the CB from Maryland, Tarheeb Still, who many consider our "worst" choice in this draft; but if NaVorro Bowman (who is now on our defensive coaching staff) pounded the table for him after coaching him at Maryland for two years then I feel much better about this kid! And that bowling ball of a RB from Troy- none of us ever heard of him before, but he looks like he'll be a great asset in a RBC! And don't get me started on Brenden Rice. I posted about him long before he was drafted and am still mystified that he wasn't picked until the seventh round. I've looked for an explanation and NO ONE knows why.
My last thought will be on our first pick. No, I did not see this coming although the signs in hindsight were crystal clear. Yes, we really took a Right Tackle with the fifth overall pick. (So much for that positional value myth!) I was bothered by this because I am not a fan of taking players and moving them to a different position than they played in college. But I've heard a few pundits speak to that and make comments that Joe Alt is special and (while not ideal) moving to the right side will not be an issue for him. So yay! And the big-picture view of OTs over WRs was the correct one as evidenced by how this draft played out over the first few rounds! Sure, casual fans like me were hoping for the more exciting play-making weapon and not a big ugly, but looking back I think it was the smart move, made by smart people. Do I look like NO ONE to you ??!?!?!?! You have come to the right place for answers. Answers that NO ONE can give you. Not ESPN, NFL Network NO ONE !!! Let's dive in. How does someone rated day 2 fall into the 7th round ? No off the field trouble. No injuries. No nut case. How ? In a very deep WR pool he slipped through. All the teams that wanted WR's had already grabbed theirs. So when their next rounds came about, they were hunting other positions. I know we were up this guys butt (I know I would be). Pro days, combine, etc. I hope he ends up being one of our stories for the ages. I want to hear other teams say how did we not get that guy. 7 WR went in the 6th round. 4 WR in the 5th round... That's insane, I honestly don't think there is a true reason. I think he legitimately just slipped through the cracks. From what I read, he was inconsistent at USC and showed flashes but never really stepped up till 2023.

Let me rephrase it like this: Sure there were some stud WR prospects taken early and often in this draft, but in the later rounds why was there still a WR from Southeast Missouri State or a WR named Bub Means preferred over the GOAT's son? (no offense to either player)

Seems to me, he simply has not developed the same level of talent his dad had at his age. he could very well be at the launch pad. We would hope. At the pro level he will get more opportunity to learn and develop those skills that he simply would not have or time to use in College. My .2 cents. The name is special, but that doesn't mean its automatic for them. I will be rooting for him to destroy the league like Brady did.

This is the main reason, clubs took better WR talent first.....stunning.

Vidal was definitely a target and I’m really happy with that pick. The only players drafted I didn’t see any tape or profile on before the draft were Still and Egboigbe. Still at that pick was a surprise.

I am looking forward to seeing Eboigbe in camp. I think he might prove to be a solid addition to the DL group. A shrewd draft pick.....

CORNELIUS JOHNSON WR MICHIGAN---Just looks like that guy they tell "Listen, we are going to pound the rock until they crowd the box on defense and then Herbert is going to hit you about 13 yards out."
