How the hell can you forget the firing of a 14-2 coach. This is the Chargers. A Spanos led Chargers. That was different. A GM and a HC at open war with each other had to have created a toxic environment. AJ and Marty's ego and refusal to work together forced Dean's hand. Hindsight might tell you that the wrong guy got canned but I doubt that Marty would have brought us to the promised land so that makes it a moot point. Marty's playoff record was 5-13. So yeah.

I've been a huge Staley fan since day one. The thing that really got to me was the expression on Herbert's face when he went to the sideline when we failed on the fourth down on our own 18 yad line. It will only be so long until Staley loses Herbert over these "hero" calls. I was telling my wife this morning that I predict next season that Herbert goes rogue when dumbass calls come in from the sideline. He knew it was moronic to go for it and even more stupid to run Austin right up the gut when they had 10 in the box. Run and RPO on the edge and let your franchise make the play. Of course, punting was the call to begin with. Staley's defensive alignment (4 in the box) on the 3rd and 23 three was just as stupid. That play damn near broke our backs. Staley is aggressive while not having a killer instinct. I don't know if I have ever seen that before. I'm not ready to give up on the guy, but Staley's got to look in the mirror. He single-handedly submarined one of the guttiest QB performances on all time last night. Herbert is a nice guy but will eventually tire of "stupid" from his own coach being his biggest hurdle. OH MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY SDC !!!!!!! I'M SO UPSET TODAY !!!! THOSE GODDAMN EVIL RAIDERS !!!! OH THE HORROR OF IT ALL !!!! WHY COULDN'T WE LOSE TO JACKSONVILLE LIKE THE COLTS. ANYONE BUT THOSE CURSED FILTHY BASTARDS RAIDERS !!!!! HOPEFULLY WE DRAGGED THEM THROUGH HELL AND CINCY WINS 51-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!! WE CURSE YOU FAIDERS !!!! WE WILL FIGHT YOU FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL'S FIRE FOR ALL ETERNITY IF WE HAVE TO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The offseason marty got fired in was so horrible. it was like re-watching Marlon fumble over and over again in slow mo. They fired Marty so late all the good HC candidates were long gone.
Life Is Pain.

That game was such a battle that I doubt that the winner, be it the Bolts or the Raiders, would stand much of a chance to rebound from that bloodbath, head east and win outdoors on a short week much less compete.

He left nothing back for the playoffs. His fatal thaw was playing to get into the tournament without much consideration for winning once he got there. I do miss the fact that his teams were always prepared and were more often than not the tougher team on the field on any given Sunday. That has been missing since he left. His legacy here was winning despite often times having less talent than the competition. Our culture since is losing with the better talent. Not to mention the special teams bullshit. How is it that I fear a blocked punt every time we punt but never even consider that we would block one. Don't get me started on place kicking.

That should come from maturity. I'm a little surprised he didn't audible. That game last night seriously boosted my feelings about Herbert. I think he is looking to be the better than any QB the bolts have ever had. That was a potentially legendary comeback he engineered. If they win, it feeds into a narrative we’re dying to have. Instead, it feeds the other more familiar narrative that the Chargers will always find a way to lose. They beat themselves last night. The refs had a hand but far too many mistakes in the 17th game of the season Yep. Last night cemented “Chargers gonna Charger.”

How the hell can you forget the firing of a 14-2 coach. This is the Chargers. A Spanos led Chargers. I said it was too new. Was Marty new ? No. Marty old. Staley Stays. all tongue in cheek. Staley isn't going anywhere based on normal history. Although, I get NFL players do not have the say NBA players do in regard to a coach, but what if Staley really has lost the locker room?

Totally agree on the Chargers beating themselves. They gave the raiders too many new opportunities with the mistakes.

I can tell you I was furious. That's who he doesn't want to lose. Herbert. Why do you think he is saying he feels the worst for not being in the playoffs. He best better powder Herbert's ass. He loses him, he's gone. Fastest ticket out of here is right there. Of the top QB's in the league. Herbert is the only one not to be in the playoffs. Try having THAT meeting with the owners.

During the regular season Marty was a supreme motivator who got the best out of his players. When it comes to playoff time it is not as necessary to get the team hyped up because it’s the playoffs and they already know it’s win or go home. So Marty’s usual hype just got the team tight as adrenaline was already peaking. Lead to mistakes. Just a theory

We had the momentum coming back from 10-0 to go up 14-10. We had them stopped with 3rd and 23. But we gave that up and then Carr trying to throw the ball away and avoid a sack gets a PI call on an incarchable ball, which Tony Dungy said was a “wrong” call. 114-10 became 17-14 and we really didn’t recover until 00’s were on the clock in regulation. Raiders went on a 19-0 run

Look you guys, think about a player coming into the NFL.....first year is usually a huge adjustment (yes there are the Herberts of this world, but they become superstars), with plenty to absorb before their talent really can start to be effective. Adderly is a reasonable example....first year or two were less than stellar, but he has become what they expected. Now just think about that jump for a fairly inexperienced coordinator, becoming a HC in the NFL.....Staley made some mistakes, no doubt, but he seems really smart so learning from those mistakes is a given. This off season will have less consternation about getting all things done, it will be a much calmer time. I believe we see a vastly improved Staley next year.....
