Look you guys, think about a player coming into the NFL.....first year is usually a huge adjustment (yes there are the Herberts of this world, but they become superstars), with plenty to absorb before their talent really can start to be effective. Adderly is a reasonable example....first year or two were less than stellar, but he has become what they expected. Now just think about that jump for a fairly inexperienced coordinator, becoming a HC in the NFL.....Staley made some mistakes, no doubt, but he seems really smart so learning from those mistakes is a given. This off season will have less consternation about getting all things done, it will be a much calmer time. I believe we see a vastly improved Staley next year..... Ok might buy into this except he didn’t seem to get better as the year progressed. We peaked 5 weeks into the season. Went 5-7 thereafter.

If there is one thing apparent with Staley is that he has an ego, he seems to want to be seen as a smart guy. Not just fans, but alot of people in the media are bashing him right now. I think this can go in one of 2 ways... He'll either be extremely stubborn and egotistical to a fault and double down on his poor decisions... OR... he'll learn from this season and employ a more traditional balanced approach to his style of coaching without sacrificing the aggressive side. I'm hoping for the latter...

That is why a complete critical review of the season is required. GM, baby Spanos, entire coaching staff, all need to be present, and the review should be on decisions that proved to be mistakes. There will be a trend discovered, and then it is correctable. For instance, going for it on 4th down....I do not care what the analytics say, Staley was too aggressive in his employing this tactic. There will be other things, less noticeable things to the fan, that will come out of that review. Refining, improving, adjusting, learning.....all needs to happen between now and next TC.

I agree, and that is my biggest concern about Staley......failure to adjust enough.

Now that some time has passed what we saw was a first year coach who won some games by being aggressive while losing a couple of games when things did not work out. All the "talking heads" are harping on the end of the game and the time out. To me the going for it at our own 18 and not making it was the key play. We gave the Raiders 3 points that were not earned and it cost us in the end where we would have won the game with our TD instead of tying and going to OT.
We can hope that he will learn to make better decisions but Staley is a Hell of an Improvement over Lynn (who just got fired as Lions OC.

Remember when Slauson said that orders came from above to play a high-pick OT everyone knew was not a quality starter during the McCoy era? …

Yea I agree, way to much chatter is being spent on the time out,the 4th down call was worse. Is he really better than Lynn though? IMHO its dumb mistakes in different areas... Lynn and Staley have roughly the same record in their respective first year. Lynn won a playoff game his second year, will Staley do that?

Asking that question in that context would be a disaster.
